We've gotten word that Dad is up and walking around and he just called to find out if his new hot water heater is still leaking so I think he's doing better by the hour.
Well, he's awake and alert but still very sleepy. Ella fed him his lunch of broth, jello, and sherbert. Mmm.
Dad is out of surgery and everything went perfectly. He lost less than 200 cc of blood, both nerves were able to be preserved, and the doctor said that he saw no evidence of cancer anywhere else. He was very optimistic and reassuring. All great news. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. We'll keep you posted. Final pathology results should be in by Monday.
Still waiting...should be out within half an hour.
Dad's urologist, Dr. Nelson, only does radical prostatectomies. He does over 350 a year. So I think we're in good hands.
The nurse told Dad that a certain shot will make him feel like he's had a couple glasses of wine and that his catheter at first will make him feel like he's had six beers and is waiting in line for the bathroom at a Steelers game...which might not be analogies that are particularly helpful for him.
7:00 Dad has just been wheeled out and is on his way to surgery.
By the way, this will be Ryan posting the updates even though the blog has Brittney's name on it.
3:40 AM We were scheduled to leave at 3:45 this morning. When I came downstairs,Dad was ready to go and had already showered and washed with disinfectant soap two times as prescribed by his doctor. However, I thought it was odd when I saw him step out into the garage with a bucket of water. Turns out that he decided at the last minute to mop up a puddle of garbage juice that had leaked out of a trash bag during the night. 6:15 AM Dadis getting his spinal block and we are in the floor waiting room for the time being.
